I bought several large old keys to put beads on, the results are very decorative. Above is an example of a functioning house key belonging to a customer of mine, the metal has changed colour during the process, which gives added character. I like functional objects with a difference, so this idea appeals to me. If you have a key of this type and would like a bead on it (to your colour specification where possible) it is £12.50 inc p&p (email via the 'contact min' page) but make sure there is room on your key for a bead when it is inserted into the lock, or it won't work.
It's not easy to get perfectly shaped beads on an old irregularly shaped key, as you will see above, but the beads move on the shank, which is pleasing.
